WORKING AGREEMENT

FOR THROUGH TRAFFIC BETWEEN

THE CHINESE AND BRITISH SECTIONS OF THE

CANTON-KOWLOON RAILWAY.

This Agreement is made by and between the Ministry of Railways of the National Government of the Republic of China, of the one part and the Government of the British Colony of Hong Kong (hereinafter called the "Hong Kong Government") of the other part.

Whereas a Railway has been constructed from the City of Canton to the boundary of the British leased territory at a point on the North bank of the Shum Chun River near the town of Shum Chun in the District of Pao On (which Railway is hereinafter referred to as "the Chinese Section"):

And Whereas the Hong Kong Government has constructed a Railway from the Port at Kowloon to the said point on the North bank of the Shum Chun River (which Railway is hereinafter referred to as "the British Section') and a junction has been effected between the Chinese Section and the British Section at the point aforesaid :

And Whereas it is desirable to enter into an Agreement for the working of through traffic on the Chinese Section and the British Section collectively hereinafter called "the Railway":

Now it is hereby agreed by and between the parties hereto as follows:-

Definition of Through Traffic.

Article 1. All traffic originating from stations on the Chinese Section and terminating at stations on the British Section or vice versa, shall be considered as "Through Traffic".

Article 2. "Terminal Through Traffic" shall mean all traffic originating from Canton and terminating at Kowloon or vice versa, which is subject to special competitive rates or fares. All other through traffic shall be known as "Sectional Through Traffic".

Article 3. "Through Trains" shall mean trains passing from one Section to the other through Shum Chun Station without interchange of passengers or goods.

Passenger Through Traffic.

Article 4. "Through Express Trains" shall mean passenger trains run from Canton to Kowloon or vice versa, stopping normally only at Shek Lung and Shum Chun and at certain other stations as may be agreed upon between the Administrations of the two Sections for traffic purposes.
